The Worcestershire Breast Unit, recognised by clinicians as one of the leading breast units in the UK, is situated on the site of Worcestershire Royal Hospital at 220 Newtown Road. The Unit, which opened in February 2016, is in a spacious and private location overlooking the woods of the Countryside Centre and has its own tranquil gardens and visitor parking. It offers rapid, efficient assessment and care in welcoming and private surroundings.
The Unit was the vision of Consultant Breast Surgeon, Steven Thrush, who spearheaded the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign spanning 2009 to the end of January 2016, responsible for raising the £1.5 million to achieve the conversion of the NHS Acute Trust building.
The NHS Worcestershire Acute Trust supports the day-to-day operation of the Breast Unit, while the independent charity based on site at the Breast Unit, the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven, is responsible for providing and funding the wide range of additional support services available to patients across the county.

The Wye Suite - In 2021, the Breast Unit was extended, creating a new base for Worcestershire and Herefordshire’s breast screening service. The unit offers state of the art breast imaging facilities, weekend screenings to ease NHS service pressures and reduce waiting times and provides nationally accredited training to develop and recruit the future Herefordshire & Worcestershire Breast Radiology workforce.
