Bra-fitting / Prostheses
Following your surgery for breast cancer, you may be given a specially designed post-surgery bra and breast prosthesis.
If you have had a mastectomy, implant reconstruction or therapeutic mammoplasty surgery, you will be offered a date for your first fitting, which is usually given at your results appointment.
At the fitting, we will provide you with a pocketed bra and a prosthesis to fit inside. If you have had surgery on both sides, we will provide two prostheses. You will also be able to have a prothesis to improve symmetry if you have had breast conserving surgery.
We offer fitting clinics at both our Worcester and Redditch sites, each with a private, dedicated fitting room.
At Redditch, clinics are usually held once a month, most often on a Tuesday. At Worcester, clinics take place around every three weeks, typically on a Monday or Thursday. Occasionally, these dates may change depending on staff availability, and we will always let you know if this happens.
Your fitting appointment is normally arranged for around six weeks after your operation. This allows time for any swelling to settle, helping us ensure the best and most comfortable fit for you.
There is a range of sizes and shapes available but if we do not have the right fit for you, we can order it in and will call you when it is ready for collection. This can be a wait of approximately 2-3 weeks to allow for delivery.
The prosthesis should last for at least 2 years, but if it gets damaged, we can replace it free of charge. Likewise, we can arrange a refit if your body size and shape changes. We advise you to keep the prosthesis in its box to ensure it maintains its shape.
We can also provide ‘softies’ which are a fabric, lightweight option if you prefer, or you can choose a Boost® prosthesis instead of the traditional prosthesis style.

Nicola Jane bra-measuring clinics
Fitting clinics are also run by Nicola Jane, which is a national retailer of post-surgery lingerie and swimwear. Local representative, Claire Bourne, holds clinics at Nuffield Gym in Worcester, as well as at venues in Malvern, Warwickshire and Birmingham every 4-5 weeks.
At your fitting, you have the option to purchase bras, prostheses and swimwear, but there is absolutely no pressure to buy.
